The Parish Council are considering commissioning some form of permanent Diamond Jubilee art work. We thought it would be a useful exercise to ask people whether that was a good idea and if so to ask what sort of thing would be appropriate.
We have a provisional budget in mind but at this time we don't want to name a figure in case it limits peoples' imagination.
Suggestions so far put forward are:
1. A fountain in the park; set to give water at two heights, one for humans and one for pets.
2. A life-size statue (possibly based on the wizard theme); downside of that is that they are usually made of bronze and that is expensive. Possibly an artist may 'do' one 'at cost' as a public gesture/marketing exercise.
3. A wooden statue/carving (such as are currently in vogue); downside of that is that wood is easily vandalisable.
4. A statue in a 'modern' sense e.g. metal strips spot-welded together.
5. Not a picture etc. as that would have to be hung indoors somewhere and so most people might never see it.
Location for any such art work?
a) in the park... o.k. for a fountain but statues can get damaged there.
b) outside the new Medical Centre.
c) In the village; possibly 'on' the semi-roundabout at the London Road end of Macclesfield Road.
d) On the pavement, somewhere along London Road. i.e. in the village.
Please let us know what you think.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
As a dog owner and in general terms I support the idea of a fountain as this would be fairly cheap and of practical use.
The council might also consider a jubilee bench along London Road.
Another idea is to use of the budget is to have new children play equipments in commemorating Jubilee, many villagers and their families can enjoy.
