Residents of Bupa’s Brookview Nursing and Residential Home teamed up with students from Alderley Edge Girls School last week to get their hands dirty for the care home’s “Sow and Grow” campaign.
The campaign aims to promote the health benefits of growing your own fruit and vegetables and residents invited the local school to lend a hand with planting and starting their own vegetable plot.
Maureen Southern, Home Manager, said, “The help we receive from the school is really appreciated by everyone at Brookview. It is a great way of getting residents involved, particularly those who were keen gardeners before they joined us.
“Apart from this, all our residents love to feel part of the local community and it is a perfect opportunity for them to enjoy our beautiful gardens, appreciate the fresh air and get a real sense of achievement by watching the plants and vegetables grow. As such it helps minds as well as bodies.”
The care home is organising an Open Day on Saturday 26 May for members of the local community to visit the home and its gardens and see its new £1million 12 ensuite bedroom extension. Last week this was given the seal of approval by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Maureen added, “I can understand why it may be daunting to look round a care home but this is a really friendly and informal opportunity to see what Brookview is like and everything we are able to offer. Everyone will be guaranteed a warm welcome.”
