Dominic Brown elected new chair of Tatton Labour Party

A budding politician from Alderley Edge has been elected Chairman of the local Labour Party.

Dominic James Brown, who stood as the Labour candidate for the Alderley Ward election in May 2011, took over the post for the Tatton Constituency towards the end of last year. He will chair all the meetings as well as act as the local spokesman for the party.

Speaking about why he stood for the role, Dominic told me "I felt I was the best person to relaunch the party in this area. I am both committed to my community and to the party.

"I am now able to set a agenda for how the local party is to proceed and I have a lot of priorities. I want to give my members more things to do, I want to have more events for them to attend and give them as much local and national campaigning as they want.

"When things are running well I would like to do a membership drive and get more people involved. I want to give the people of Tatton more options and a different point of view."

Dominic, 31, worked as an engineer for 15 years but decided he needed a change last year and applied for university. He is now a full time politics student at Salford University.

He added "Because of my engineering background I have always had a strong affinity with the Labour Party. For me it's the party who will always support and champion the working classes, and now the party is more vital than ever before."

Speaking about a potential career in politics, Dominic said "Well I'm studying politics and involved locally in politics but to have a career I think politics needs to choose you rather than you choose it. I want to help and work hard for people so if I could do that through politics I will be happy.

"Politics affects all our lives and it is something that should never be underestimated."

He added "Whilst I welcome input from constituents I also welcome any contact, questions or discussion from any members or supporters of other political parties. I think it's good for local residents to see what the differences of opinion are between each party."

Dominic, good luck for the future - the AE political scene needs to be more balanced to reflect the opinions of all of us.

Dominic, I should have said that the whole of the Tatton constituency, including AE, needs to be more balanced.
