Cheshire East Council has saved another £100,000, thanks to the commitment of residents to recycling.
Last month, the authority announced that the amount of waste being sent to landfill had been reduced as a result of the new three bin recycling system.
Since then Cheshire East has reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by a further 1,000 tonnes which has resulted in a total saving of £200,000.
Councillor Rod Menlove, Cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said: "Of course, the aim of introducing the new recycling system was to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill, for the good of the environment and public finances.
"However, I have been pleasantly surprised at how dramatically this waste volume has been reduced and in such a relatively short space of time. I cannot thank residents enough for taking the time to recycle their waste.
"Most of our household waste can now be recycled – making sure this goes into the silver bin reduces the amount of waste sent to landfill and avoids the cost of the ever increasing landfill tax.
"With Christmas just around the corner, I would like to remind residents that most of their extra waste – cards, plastic packaging, wrapping paper and cardboard – can be recycled."
