Celebrating 45 years of service

Alderley Edge School for Girls held a special celebration for Kitchen Assistant Mary Jones this week as she celebrated 45 years involvement with the school.

Mary, who started working on the Mount Carmel site when she was twenty one, moved to the new site when St Hilary's School and Mount Carmel School amalgamated to form Alderley Edge School for Girls in 1999.

Mary and her late husband David, who also worked at the school as a caretaker and gardener, had three daughters Paula, Alison, and Susan who all attended Mount Carmel school.

The Junior School held an afternoon Assembly on Monday, 10th October, to say thank you to Mary for all her hard work throughout the years - during which the girls presented Mary with flowers and a cake. After the assembly Mary was joined by the Senior School for afternoon tea and presented with more gifts.

During the celebrations, Mrs Susan Goff, Headmistress, explained how important it is to value each and every member of the school whether they are a pupil or a member of staff.

Mary, who lives at Elm Crescent, told me "I love my job, it's a wonderful and very lifting place. I'll carry on working here as long as I can."

Mr Lawrence Groves, Headmaster of the Junior School added, "As a school, we felt it was very important to involve our girls in the celebrations held for Mary, and we would like to thank her for her continued loyalty and support to the school, long may it continue!"
