Pupils grow their own harvest

7th B'Day 046

Parents at Alderley Edge Community Primary School have been amazed by the school harvest currently available to purchase after school.

The children from Years 1 to 3 have grown everything from beetroot and runner beans to peppers and herbs in the school allotment.

The younger children have had great fun picking the runner beans at lunchtime and taking them back to class to discuss, and the 45cm marrow was particularly impressive.

The school allotment was established last year with the help of a number of parents and members of Alderley Edge Allotment Society. The Holmes Family are getting much deserved praise for giving so much time and knowledge to the project and the school are very grateful to the Alderley Edge Allotment Society who have also offered lots of support and advice.

Headteacher Mr Perry said "It has been amazing to see this small idea literally grow into such fantastic produce. I was lucky enough to have some potatoes from the allotment before the summer holidays and they were delicious. Helen Fitchett, who has led this allotment development, has been amazing – she has given so much time to this venture and many children have gained so much from it."

It's great to see kids getting involved at an early age with growing your own. The allotment society will happily provide seeds for next year. We also hope to see some entries in our new comers class in next years annual show !

Great news. How about some pumpkin plants for next year and enter for the heaviest pumpkin?! Oh and don't forget the animal vegetable category too!
