Our local chippy has reached the regional finals of a national competition which celebrates the great British tradition of fish and chips.

Fosters Fish & Chips have won a place in the final three in the National Fish & Chips awards for the North West region which is a big area covering Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Cumbria.

The competition is run by Seafish and rewards outstanding businesses across a variety of award categories. Fosters will now go forward to a further round of competition, competing against Seniors and Thorntons, both located in Thornton Lancashire, for the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award.

Kath Foster, who runs the business with her husband Gaz, said "It's voluntary to enter but most shops do. To reach this stage you have to fill in an application form which basically sells yourself. You have to answer questions about your food handling practices, hygiene, staff training and brand values. They are also interested in promotional activity, PR opportunities and links with local media."

"We now get a mystery shopper sometime in September who will taste the food and then assess the shop.

"We are absolutely delighted to get to this stage and are determined to reach the grand final!"

The top three restaurants will be invited to the National Fish & Chips Awards ceremony to be held in London in January 2012 where the overall winning restaurant will be announced.
