Mysterious hole appears on Davey Lane

hole

Local residents were rather concerned to see the road on Davey Lane had suddenly collapsed on Tuesday, July 19th, leaving a hole about two feet deep.

Bollards were placed around the hole yesterday, alerting both pedestrians and motorists to the danger, and I contacted Cheshire East Council to make sure they were aware of the problem and request that it was fixed as soon as possible.

I have now received notification from the Council that the hole has now been filled in but the engineers don't know what caused it.

This type of thing will continue to happen from time to time where water runs under ground or there is some sort of old structure such as a drain that may have collapsed. That piece of road is an absolute disgrace, it is used heavily servicing a large number of houses. I'd like to see a decision on whether it is a cobbled surface or tarmac, at the moment it seems those responsible for maintaining it are in favour of letting it return to cobble!

I reported the hole as well via the east cheshire website. A similar hole appeared last year within a few feet of this one. Last years hole had running water at the bottom, so perhaps there is a underground spring or stream close by? The road is no way near maintained enough...

It looks like the hole has now been filled in. Now the rest of the road needs to be done.
