Work has begun this week on The Edge, the new floodlit, artificial grass hockey pitch, at the Ryleys School playing fields on Wilmslow Road.
The Ryleys School has teamed up with Alderley Edge Cricket Club to provide the brand new, purpose-built facility.
Alderley Edge Cricket Club are financing the project through the £100,000 raised by Alderley Edge Hockey Club members, generous grants from the National Hockey Foundation and the Alderley Edge Institute Trust and a loan from the Club's bank, whilst the school are providing the land.
The school will have use of the pitch during school hours and Saturday mornings. Out of school hours and at the weekends, Alderley Edge Hockey Club will utilise the pitch for coaching, training sessions and matches, for their mens, ladies and junior sections. This pitch will be of great benefit to the school, the club and the local village community.
School Headmaster Pat Barrett said "The Ryleys has a long-standing belief in ‘sport for all’ and actively promotes this through its structured sporting activities for both boys and girls.
"This joint investment with AECC to provide top class facilities highlights our commitment, not just to sport for our pupils, but also to sport within the wider community."
Nick Rudgard, President of Alderley Edge Hockey Club said "It’s taken a long time to get to this point and we are delighted that work has finally started. The new pitch should give us more opportunities to provide hockey for all."
