Bailiffs close down Fiorucci

Bailiffs have shut down Fiorucci Hair and Beauty on London Road.

A 'Take Notice' was placed on the door of the unisex hair salon on Monday, 11th July, stating that County Bailiff Company, as authorised agents of the landlords, "have this day re-entered the premises and taken possession thereof."

David Allison, one of the owners of Fiorucci, told me "As we were moving anyway in a months time, to join forces with a local beauty salon in Wilmslow, we had problems getting an extension on our lease, which had expired. So the agents took notice of the salon.

"We are trying to get a temporary premises asap and apologise to our clients for the inconvenience. We can be contacted on 01625 427261."

I spoke with one of their regular customers yesterday who told me "I was one of their first customers when they opened up in the village about 15 years ago. David had told me recently that unless the landlords were prepared to renegotiate the rent then they would be forced to move out.

"This has come as shock though as I have an appointment booked for Thursday and another for a couple of weeks time."

The closure of Fiorucci's London Road salon follows the recent closure of The Medicine Shop after 18 years in Alderley Edge and Alan Jackson Butchers which closed suddenly after 21 years in the village.

Speaking about this latest news, Tracey Warne, owner of Alderley Flowers and The Paperie, said "It's very sad to see that yet another business has gone, we have lost so many in the last few months. This year is hitting even harder financially than the last couple of years.

"The takings are considerably lower, and the rent and other outgoings are still the same. I only hope the people of Alderley Edge and the surrounding areas really will help us to survive by shopping locally to prevent even more closing down."

Update Wednesday 13th July: The team from Fiorucci will be based at House of W on London Road from today.

David Allison told me "We have been in meetings all day with them and all feel good about the partnership. We have also been granted access to our old salon to retrieve our possessions."

I don't know what to suggest but something needs to happen in the Village because all these business closing on the high-street is tragic, i dread to think of what the Village will be like in 5 years if it carry's on like this, anybody have any good idea's how we can help local businesses more? Best wishes to everybody at Fiorucci.

Lots of businesses that thrive in a booming economy will disappear in the continuing recession. Its very hard to say what London Road will look like in 5 years time - it can only support so many charity shops etc; I guess that new businesses will take over leases wherever practicable - but equally you might see a number of sites reverting to residential use as has happened over the years up and down the country. You might also see more and more short-term leases with shops opening and closing much more frequently. It would be interesting to describe London Road in 2016 now - taking into account market forces rather than what people would like to see - and then see just how close that prediction came when 2016 comes round.
