If you're facing the challenge of keeping your children entertained during the long summer holiday, like I am, then you might be interested to know that Cheshire East Council have put together a programme of events for the summer holidays offering a variety of activities for children of different ages and abilities.
Activities to choose from include Play and Crafts sessions at local libraries which link in with the Summer Reading Challenge and offer children the opportunity to play parachute games, Giant Jenga and make balloon animals. Suitable for children up to the age of 11, each session costs £2 each or £5 per family.
Street Sports and Play is also on offer which are fun sessions in local parks with both sport and play activities such as basketball, football and kwik cricket, as well as parachute games and craft activities. These are suitable for 5 to 16 year olds at a cost of £1 per child.
Love Outdoor Play sessions promote outdoor play and exploration. Aimed at 5 to 16 year olds, the children can take part in scavenger hunts, bug hunting, den building, and natural arts and crafts.
Active Families will also be held throughout the summer offering something for all the family. These sessions offer the opportunity to explore arts, crafts and fun games or take part in walks at children's centres or open spaces. They are suitable for children up to the age of 11 and are free of charge.
The sessions will all be run as an open access scheme so they cannot be pre-booked. This means that children can only be supervised whilst they are participating in the delivered activities and cannot be prevented from coming and going as they please during the session. For this reason, and in the interests of safety and wellbeing, children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Attached is a copy of the full Active Holiday 2011 Summer Guide and details of all the local sessions can be found in our events calendar.
