Cheshire East Council is urging residents to play an important part in next year's Olympic Games.
Whilst the 2012 event will take place in London, people in Cheshire East are being given the chance to get involved by becoming a torchbearer.
Anyone can nominate a friend, family member, teacher or work colleague to carry the specially-commissioned gold Olympic torch when the relay comes through the region next year.
The torch relay will involve a 70-day tour of the UK from May 19th until July 27th, 2012 and will feature 8,000 inspirational torchbearers. The exact route has yet to be revealed.
To nominate a torchbearer, visit the London 2012 website. The closing date for nominations is June 29th, 2011.
Cheshire East Councillor Peter Hayes, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: "Anyone can be nominated to be a torchbearer. Maybe it is someone who has inspired you, someone who has made a difference in their local community, been a good friend or simply has a love of the Olympic Games.
"This is our chance, as the Cheshire East community, to get involved with the event and raise awareness of its importance in our part of the country."
