Fencing club comes to Alderley

A weekly fencing club is starting up at the Festival Hall for all ages and abilities.

All the equipment will be supplied and coaching will be provided by fully qualified and insured Fencing Masters.

Isobel Combes told me "I have been coaching fencing for 6 years now and am a fully qualified Fencing Master, one of only three women in this country who have achieved this level of qualification.

"I live in Manchester and at the moment I coach fencing in my two clubs in the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent area. I also teach fencing in schools and give individual lessons. One of my pupils, William Gallimore Tallen has just come 8th in the British Youth Championships.

"I would like to bring what I do nearer home, so will be running fencing sessions at the Festival Hall in Alderley Edge over the summer in the hope of getting an equally thriving club going in the area. Anyone who wants to have a go at the sport is welcome and I will be running a beginners course. If there are more experienced fencers in the area who want to join in, they are most welcome and can receive competitive coaching or make use of our scoring equipment to fence each other."

The lessons will start on Thursday June 2nd when a special introductory session will be held.

We had an exhilarating time and great fun. What a brilliant, and entertaining, workout to tone up leg muscles! I would recommend this to anyone. It's a very rewarding challenge. My daughter and I can't wait to get the equipment back on and do more.
