Luxury spa hotel planned for Alderley

Plans have been submitted to Cheshire East Council to build a luxury destination spa hotel and gardens at Harden Park in Alderley Edge.

Northern Ireland-based developer Benmore Group has submitted a planning application to extend, refurbish and alter the former Yesterday's night club to create a 68 bedroom hotel with a total gross internal floor space of 6,483 sqm, including a ground floor bistro and spa.

The greenbelt site lies adjacent to the A34, currently houses the vacant nightclub and covers an area of approximately 1.66 Ha.

Benmore plan to retain the existing nightclub building and extend it to accommodate reception and meeting spaces on the ground floor, with luxury suites on the first and second floors. The front of the existing building is to be enhanced to provide a feature entrance to the site, including formal gardens leading down to the lake and 34 parking spaces.

There will be a separate entrance to the side of the site, providing access to the services yard to the rear of the hotel and to the secure basement parking providing an additional 45 spaces.

The building has been empty for years and become somewhat of an eyesore. The main building has apparently fallen into a severe state of disrepair and been subject to a number of incidences of vandalism and theft whilst the grounds around the building have also fallen in to a sorry state of decline.

The Yesterday's site was last used as a nightclub, restaurant and bar, though it had previously been a hotel. In 1983 planning permission was refused for change of use from a hotel to elderly persons accommodation and in 1988 permission was refused for 6 dwellings in the grounds of Yesterdays - both due to a conflict with greenbelt policy.

The exact number of jobs to be created is not known at this stage, given this is an outline scheme and the eventual operators have not been confirmed, but it is envisaged that approximately 68 jobs would be provided as a result of the development.

The estimated cost of developing the 4/5* boutique style hotel, including the site acquisition costs, build costs, professional and finance costs is over £9 million.

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East planning portal by searching for planning reference 11/0268M.

Took 20 Swedish male work colleagues there one Saturday night and we had a beer with Irish football legend Paul McGrath in the Piano bar. Remember Dougie James and the Soul Train anyone?
Will be good to see it restored rather than decay. Happy days past and perhaps to come!

Fantastic news, I hope this gets the go ahead, more jobs to the area plus money coming in as well when people stay and spend time in the village in the shops/pubs etc

Great news, used to go to the excellent Escape nights there run by Lou and Jon Crane, they were superb. Such a shame to see it deteriorate like it has.
