A derelict building in Alderley Edge was destroyed by fire on Saturday, April 23rd.

Two fire engines were called to a detached garage in the grounds of Brynwood, which is opposite The Merlin on Wilmslow Road. The property has been empty for years, however planning permission was granted earlier this month to convert the dwelling in to a recording studio and rehearsal rooms.

The first fire engine, from Wilmslow fire station, arrived at 10.26pm with a second fire engine from Macclesfield arriving shortly after. Fire crews battled with the fire for a couple of hours with the last fire engine leaving the scene at 1am.

The police were also in attendance and have confirmed that the fire was started deliberately.

Sergeant Andy Miller said "The property is temporarily unoccupied and has been subjected to numerous incidents of vandalism and criminal damage over recent weeks. The cost of the damage caused so far runs into thousands of pounds.

"This latest incident has been confirmed as being a malicious ignition. It is believed that youths are hanging around at the premises which is set well back from the road. We would appeal to anyone who may have information regarding this matter to contact me at Wilmslow Police Station."

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Wilmslow Neighbourhood Policing Unit on 0845 458 0000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
