Volunteers unite to support our heroes

Twenty seven volunteers from across Macclesfield, Stockport and Crewe gathered at the Drum & Monkey on Thursday, 17th February, to label 1600 bottles of limited edition beer.

"Unity and Strength" was brewed by Robinson's and named after a group of walkers who will trek along the Pennine Way to raise money for wounded service-men.

The walk has been organised by ex Royal Marine Glenn Lowe who was recently diagnosed with asbestosis. He will be joined by up to 150 volunteers who hope to raise £100,000 for Help for Heroes, Combat Stress and Hounds for Heroes.

Glenn said "All 1600 bottles were labelled within 3 hours. The biggest task was chaining them up a flight of stairs and down again, but everyone helped."

Amongst the volunteers was John Robinson from the brewery, who re-sealed all 200 cases of beer.

Glenn added " The evening was a great success where everyone showed a great commitment. After the labelling we all enjoyed a plate of bangers and mash from The Drum's kitchen, sponsored by Robinson's brewery, followed by a few pints before leaving.

"The beer remains unsampled until the national launch at The Cross Keys in Crewe on 28th February. Although John Robinson and myself have tried it and it is a fantastic real ale, as you would expect from Robinson's."

Anyone wishing to purchase "Unity and Strength" by the bottle or case can email Glenn. or phone him on 01270 662753. Deliveries will begin from 1st March.
