Alderley Edge Institute Trust, which was established in 2003 following the sale of the Village Institute, is keen to increase awareness of its existence and encourage more applications.

When the site on London Road, now occupied by the library and flats, was sold for redevelopment the proceeds were passed to this new body so they could use the funds for the benefit of good causes in the area.

The building was sold for £600,000, and this sum, together with the balance held by former Trustees, formed the trust fund of the new Alderley Edge Institute Trust.

During the past eight years the Trust have made grants totalling over £200,000, chiefly to charitable organisations within the Trust's designated Area of Benefit - which includes the parishes of Alderley Edge, Nether Alderley, Over Alderley, Chorley and Great Warford.

They have provided grants to local charities and organisations with charitable purposes and the nine trustees continue to welcome applications from any group based in, or operating within their designated area.

Over the years several local schools and churches have received funding from the Trust for building works, repairs and new equipment. Alderley and District Scout Council received a grant towards the repairs and refurbishment of the Scout Hall (£50,191) and Over Alderley Reading Room received a contribution to building repairs and refurbishment (£50,000).

Funds have also been granted to Alderley Edge Parish Plan Group (£1,250), Alderley History Group for video and PA equipment (£1,500), Groundwork Cheshire for the redevelopment of the Beech Road Play Area (£20,000) and the David Lewis Centre received money for their sensory play area and an outdoor classroom (£16,275).

In addition two local football teams, which have since merged, have received support: Alderley Edge Nomads were granted £8000 for new kit and coaching whilst Alderley Athletic Junior Football Club received £800 for new kit and equipment.

The Trust welcomes well documented cases for consideration from local organisations and occasionally, the trustees invite the applicant to present their case in person during one of their meetings.

Anyone wishing to apply can obtain a form and more information by emailing the Trust secretary Kevin Ranshaw, or calling him on 01625 582400.

Further details and the annual submissions made to the Charity Commission are accessible on its website by searching for the Registered Charity Number 241335.
