In North Division One Alderley Edge Men’s First team were at their goal scoring best when Lytham St Anne’s came to visit.

Alderley could have scored in the opening 10 seconds as Ben Gregory raced clear but couldn’t find the decisive pass. Alderley had the better of the opening exchanges but James Warburton had a goal chalked off when McPherson was deemed to have restarted too quickly.

Lytham took the lead controversially when an Alderley clearance hit the Lytham forwards foot, this was not spotted and he raced clear to finish well.

Adam Wildig thought he’d scored, but the Umpires deemed him not to have made contact with the driven pass. It wasn’t long before Alderley were level when a good move down the left gave Sam Gregory the chance to finish neatly at the back post.

Lytham were then their own worst enemy having 3 players sin-binned in quick succession. Alderley began to exert their superiority with quick goals from Andy Taylor and Ben Gregory. It was five before half time as Khalid Sawas tucked home a penalty corner and Wildig got his deserved goal.

Alderley did not want to sit back in the second half and very quickly added another 3. Sam Gregory part of a breakaway that enabled him to get his second, then a James McPherson reverse stick strike from a penalty corner rebound and James Warburton scored a drag-flick rattling it in off the post. Joe Gregory was also unlucky to not be awarded a goal for his deflected finish which wasn’t spotted.

Alderley rotated their players and lost a bit of focus and allowed Lytham a couple of consolation efforts. Final score 8-3.

The Men’s 4s continued their fine form with a 4-3 win at Bebbington.

Things are looking bright as the Men’s 1s and 2s sit in promotion places and the 3s, 4s and 5s are all closing in on the teams above them.

The Ladies 1s are now 13 points clear at the top after a 5-1 win against Winnington Park, Katie Marriott (2), Gemma Garton (2) and Sioned Davies on the score sheet. They also progressed in the Cup winning 3-2.

The Ladies 2s are 12 points ahead of their nearest rivals after a 10-0 win also against Winnington Park. The Ladies 3s are in a promotion battle and currently sit second.
