If you've seen the new Co-operative advert on TV you might have recognised our village store, though you would be forgiven for missing it as you have to wait until the final scenes to catch a glimse of the actors walking in to our local Co-op.
The TV campaign created by TBWA\Manchester encourages customers to use their time to have fun with loved ones and focus on the truly important things in life rather than spending too much time doing the big weekly food shop.
The advert features a man making a plea to his wife that he doesn't want to do the weekly shop, sit in the traffic jam or queue for the carpark anymore when they could do more pleasurable activities such as having a leisurely lie in or spending quality time with their children instead. Then at the end of the advert he can be seen wandering in to the Alderley Edge shop.
I remember the filming taking place on 3rd November, there was a large film crew gathered outside, the store had been de-cluttered, actors were stationed around the store and customers had to enter and exit via the bakery department - so it's interesting to see the finished advert though I did expect the Alderley Edge Co-op to have a bigger role.
Talking about the advert Sean Toal, Commercial Director at The Co-operative Food, said: "We know that people don't want to waste precious personal time, and the new advertising campaign gives us a unique opportunity to encourage people to think about how they prioritise things and the way they shop.
"With more than 4,000 food stores across the UK, The Co-operative is perfectly placed to encourage people to shop locally and buy what they need, when they need it, rather than travelling miles to stock up on groceries just for the sake of shopping."
