A Christmas tradition returns to the village this weekend for it's 30th year, having raised over £25,000 for local charities.

The annual Christmas Carol Concert is organised by Fay Wertheimer from the Carlton Ensemble and will feature a string quartet plus trumpet and trombone, all of whom are professional musicians playing free of charge.

Fay Wertheimer said "The concert started by chance in 1981, using carols to transcend religion. It is wonderful for all ages but also has a serious meaning. Christmas is about giving.

"It is a privilege to do and a privilege that people still want to come."

Until it's closure last year the Carol Concert was hosted by John and Janet Wheeldon at No.15 Wine Bar. This year's concert will take place at The Merlin on Sunday December 19th. Guests can enjoy a festive meal first, which will be followed by the carol concert.

Tickets, available from The Merlin on 01625 599959, are priced £23.50, £10 of which will go to charities which are nominated by the attendees.

Fay added "As long as people make a donation to charity they are welcome to just come along for the concert if they prefer which will start about 8.50pm."
