Severe winds hit Alderley

As predicted, heavy rain, accompanied by strong and gusty winds from the south west hit the area during the night. According to our nearest weather station at Manchester Airport wind gust peaked at about 2am, reaching 60 mph.

The Met Office had issued a severe weather warning because of the gales, the strongest of which were expected in the north and north west - caused by an area of low pressure across Scotland.

Eddy Carroll, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office announced on Wednesday that "It will be very stormy across the UK as we head through tonight and tomorrow, with gales or severe gales, especially on Thursday evening. With winds from the southwest the major routes that run north–south through northern England are most at risk of seeing potentially disruptive cross-winds."

We seem to have got off lightly compared to some areas though, Aberdaron in Gwynedd experienced gusts of 81mph.

At least one tree at St Hilarys Park, pictured above, fell victim to the winds. Have you spotted any wind damage in the area? If so let us know via the comment box below and email us your photos.

Mike Green responded to us on Twitter that there was a tree down on Davey Lane, the police and workmen were in attendance at 07:15. Thankfully it would appear that no serious damage was caused in Alderley Edge.
