BT has decided to let the people vote to judge demand for next generation broadband service.
This means that well-organised communities with a high proportion of votes have more chance of securing an upgrade to the telephone exchange and to get that upgrade sooner. What better place to advertise this than alderleyedge.com (not every village has a website this good).
If the Alderley Edge exchange was enabled, this would provide up to 40Mbps download speeds via fibre to the street cabinet.
Please vote and enter your details at http://www.racetoinfinity.bt.com/
The more people vote, the more chance we have of upgrading the infrastructure in our village.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
The five areas with the largest percentage of votes by December 31st 2010 will win the chance to bring superfast broadband to their area. BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project.
If we had superfast broadband here at alderleyedge.com (£5k would be nice as well) we might even bring you alderleyedge.tv! So get voting!
Even if you do not use BT as your ISP you should still vote as all ISP's use the same exchange. Please go to http://www.racetoinfinity.bt.com/ to vote - it only takes about 2 minutes.
We very much welcome guest posts from our members, provided of course they are newsworthy, local, and not being used for promotional purposes (i.e. advertorials).
The fact that the Alderley Edge exchange is not "unbundled" also means that we are exempt from all the cheapest broadband and phone packages available from the numerous providers. Just upgrading the exchange would help us all out whether or not the next generation broadband arrives...
Might as well be in Outer Mongolia as at the bottom of Brook Lane!!!
If you mail them here, they will do a feasability study. I know a number of people in the village who didn't think they could get their service but after mailing here, found they could
Whilst a small part of the village can already get Virgin fast broadband they should vote as well as they are at the mercy of Virgin's pricing unless BT, and those ISP's that use its exchange, can also provide a competitive product.
Get on and vote.
