On Monday pupils from Alderley Edge Community Primary School took part in a tag rugby tournament at Wilmslow Rugby Club where they competed against local primary schools from Wilmslow, Disley, Styal and Mottram.

The Year 5 and Year 6 team won their league, and although they lost 4-3 in the final to the Mottram A Team their fantastic performance has secured them a place in the next round of the tournament which will be held in October.

Headteacher Mr Perry said "It was great to see so many schools involved in this tag rugby tournament. Our team was mainly made up from children in Year 5 together with two children from Year 6. This relatively young side performed brilliantly winning all but one match in their league and coming out league winners. The children then faced the winners of the other league.

"This was a very exciting game but with a couple of handling errors it meant that the advantage went to the other side and ultimately we lost the game."

Mr Perry added "I was tremendously pleased with the sporting attitude the team showed throughout the tournament and I am delighted that this team will go on to play in the next round of matches."
