Sixty people turned out for the launch of the Lindow Moss Heritage Trail on Sunday, 9th June, despite somewhat (appropriately) boggy conditions.
Expert speakers were on hand to talk about the points of interest across the trail, explaining everything from the history of the landscape and how it was formed to the plans for restoration which are now under way.
The new 3.5 mile trail across Lindow Common and Lindow Moss has been developed by Transition Wilmslow and the Lindow Moss Landscape Partnership as part of the commemorations for the 40 year anniversary of the discovery of Lindow Man.
A leaflet has been designed which describes the walk, what you can see along the way and a map. These are available across in the library, at visitor centres and the parish hall and can also be downloaded via Discoverlindow.org.
Visitor Penny Tomlinson, who has lived in Wilmslow for over 40 years, said "We really enjoyed the trail – I know of Lindow Moss but have never really visited and had no idea of its history and heritage. Thanks for organising such a great event and I look forward to redoing the trail with the rest of my family."
Visitors on the route can learn about the 17 points of interest along the way from the site of an historic rifle range to understanding what a 'Moss Room' is. A specially developed piece of audio, Lindow Voices, has also been developed which allows visitors to hear the voices of Lindow Moss and find out more about the discovery of Lindow Man from people who were there that day. Best listened to on headphones this is also available via the website.

More events are coming as part of the Discover Lindow Season with an exhibition of work from students at the Guild for Lifelong Learning inspired by Lindow currently running. The Window on Lindow Art Trail featuring work by 5 professional artists is currently being installed across the Moss and will be in place over the summer. A Bioblitz day for all the family where you can find out more about the insects, animals, birds and plants on Lindow Moss is taking place on 29th July to coincide with World Bog Day.
