San Carlo acquires Gino D'Acampo's restaurant

Italian celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo will close his Alderley Edge restaurant just over a year after opening.

Upmarket restaurant operator San Carlo has acquired Luciano which took over Piccolino on London Road in January 2022.

Commenting on the deal, Marcello Distefano, Managing Director of San Carlo, says: "We are delighted to acquire such a prominent location in our heartland the North West and look forward to welcoming it into our Italian family."

Steven Walker, Chairman of Gino D'Acampo's growing restaurant business, says: "The deal is part of our strategy to focus on opening upmarket restaurants in central London and major UK cities such as our imminent openings in Leeds and Manchester, together with international locations.

"I wish Marcello and his father Carlo the very best of success for the future and could not think of a better home for this fabulous location."

After 20 years of competing with each other, Steven and Marcello see this as the start of a collaboration as they eye further opportunities together in the UK and oversees.

San Carlo take possession following dinner service tomorrow (Tuesday, 14th February). The restaurant will then close for around 5 weeks for a re-brand and minor re-furbishment.

The new restaurant will be called San Carlo at Alderley Edge and the company has retained all staff.

Can’t come too soon. Current restaurant is expensive, the food poor and the atmosphere awful. Time to provide some decent food at reasonable prices for Alderley Edge residents, hopefully San Carlos can deliver.

Looking forward to San Carlo Alderley Edge. I am sure this after a long list of fires and failures will finally be a HUGE success. Does this mean Hale may close or is there enough 'aputite' for both perhaps? Best wishes.

The worst and most expensive seafood pasta that I have ever eaten. We had one the next week at Cucina that was excellent and very much cheaper
