Alderley Edge School for Girls is celebrating a fantastic set of GCSE results this year, the first year since 2019 that public examinations have taken place. Despite enduring an extremely disruptive couple of years due to periods of lockdown and isolation leading up to public examinations, as well as the uncertainty as to whether the exams would take place, the girls' achievements are first class.

This year, 32% of all grades awarded were 8s and 9s (A*s) and 52% of all grades were 7-9 (A* - A). Business Studies, Geography and History were stand out departments. In these departments the percentage of grade 8s and 9s were as follows – Business Studies 54%, History 58% and Geography 63%. The School also offers Further Maths and Statistics as GCSE options, which are in addition to the nine GCSEs taken by each pupil. These options form part of the school's extensive Enrichment programme.

The school is also celebrating outstanding individual achievements of its pupils including: Lilia Fraser who has received 11 Grade 9s (A*S), which is an incredible achievement, Constance Gooda who received 9 Grade 9s (A*s), Emaan Alvi received 11 Grade 9 to 8 (11 A*s), Jessica MacDonald received 11 Grades 9 to 7 (11 A*- A Grades) and Thea Garfield who received 11 Grades 9-7 (11 A*-A Grades).

Headmistress, Mrs Nicola Smillie, said: "I am delighted with the results from this year's GCSE cohort. The success stories we are celebrating are down to the girls' positive work ethics and resilience, our dedicated staff and the exceptional online learning provision that the girls received. This was facilitated by the outstanding I.T. infrastructure here in school as well as the benefits of being an Apple Distinguished School. Live lessons throughout lockdown coupled with online academic and pastoral support have ensured there have been no gaps in our provision."

Head of Upper School, Mr David Wilson, added: "I am extremely proud of this year's Year 11 and I am particularly impressed with the resilience and dedication that this year group has shown. It has not been an easy couple of years for them but they have applied themselves in a mature and determined fashion which in turn has produced some excellent results. Well done, Year 11. We look forward to seeing many of you continuing your studies in our Sixth Form."
