This is the second tragic death in the village by someone being run over by a heavy goods vehicle. I would like to ask George Osborne what he is going to do to prevent it happening again.

Yes I agree with David, heavy goods vehicles going through the village, totally agree.

There's a huge big road being built at the moment.

There's 3 pedestrian crossings already. Were they used when these terrible accidents occurred?

What more could George do?

I know from attending the Parish Council meeting on Monday that they are meeting with representatives from Cheshire East next week to discuss traffic management in the village once the bypass is completed.

From what I understand, one of the actions being considered to limit the amount of through traffic using London Road once the bypass is open, is the introduction of a weight limit to prevent heavy goods vehicles coming through the village.

Let's hope it happens and nobody else is tragically killed in the village by a heavy goods vehicle.

My colleagues and I witnessed the direct aftermath of this absolute tragedy today.

At the time, no-one seemed to know what course of events led to this horrific accident but the lorry driver was not aware of what had happened and had not seemed to have been driving fast, as there was a queue of traffic. I feel that it is for the police to investigate all of the witness statements and evidence, before blame is apportioned to anyone.

Most importantly, I am deeply, deeply saddened to hear that the victim passed away. My heart goes out to that poor lady and I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy to her family and friends during this devastating time.

Really sad. The police told somebody that it wasn't the drivers fault obviously I feel for this lady and her family it's so sad, but I also feel sorry for the driver. It must be awful.

It is tragic for the family of the woman and the driver.

Sparing the details, and aftermath I saw in the village today, I had a long talk with my daughter again tonight about safety in crossing streets - always looking for and taking the pelican crossing even if it means walking further. Not sure exactly where this woman crossed or intended to cross but even when lorries and regular traffic are going the speed limit - it makes me nervous with all the children and older people who walk our village every day on such narrow walkways.

Every day I see people crossing in the middle of the street, not taking those few extra steps to the crossing! Again, not sure why this woman crossed where she did but I reminded my daughter we must do our part to be as safe as possible. Prayers for both families.

I knew the Lady involved. She was a lovely person, full of character. She will be sadly missed.

Sad event, villages should be for people not cars, but it's a challenge how to make that happen.

It is such a shame that a lady has died, but my step-father is a long distance lorry driver, and it seems very easy to pass the blame onto the driver of a wagon! If it was not for these people driving these lorries your supermarkets would not get stocked etc etc. There are plenty of safe places to cross in the village, if people could just be bothered to use them things like this would not have happened. I drive & walk in the village on a daily basis and very rarely even get up to the legal speed limit of 30mph. Please lets start to be a little more carefull and show a good example to the younger generation.

Knowing the lady who so tragically died on Wednesday, I am so saddened at her untimely death. In the village this very Saturday, at the very spot, I watched a woman get out of her car - south facing and start to walk across the street. She didn't look left, and luckily the car was able to stop. We have 3 crossings and yes we have far too much traffic. Now lets leave the investigation to do its work.

Every day you get people trying to cross London Road in such stupid places, it is their choice to do this and it's the risk they take. Don't bother trying to blame the wagon's on the roads!
Get real! Your not going to get rid of the traffic in the village!

As for the By-pass! What a waste of money! Hasn't the traffic been great when the private schools are on holiday!!! And they aren't going to be by-passing the village are they!
Roll on summer when their off for 8 weeks!

Such a tragic accident! I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the poor lady, I used to work in a shop in the village a few years ago and was wondering if I knew her.

I have checked with the police today and they have not been able to contact the lady's next of kin yet who lives outside Cheshire.

Whilst many local people knew the lady who died so tragically last week, out of respect to her family and friends we will not be putting her name on alderleyedge.com until her personal details have been publicly released.

Of course and I completely agree with you. I would appreciate a name once this has been released publicly.

Karen,

They must be picking up children late these days, as I have to avoid the A34 every weekday between 8am/10am and 3pm/6.30pm. The bypass will remove a lot of traffic from the town, as well as almost all the HGVs.

You'll have to start trying to use less !!! in your posts, as you'll give yourself a heart attack ! ;-)

Hi. To those who knew this lady. The lady was not conscious when I got to her and I think she was probably unconscious very early on in the accident, I honestly do not think she was aware of what happened.

I was driving the car right behind the lorry and I agree that this was an awful accident that shows how dangerous Alderley Edge is all the very heavy traffic. I attended to her wounds as best I could along with a Doctor that appeared on the scene a few seconds after me, and I am just glad the lorry driver did not come too close. It has made me nervous of driving myself. The lorry driver was not at fault, unfortunatley it was just a tragic tragic awful accident. He was not even aware that the collision had occurred. I do hope most of the traffic will use the new bypass.

Please everyone, be careful! I never want to witness something like this again.

Also, if anyone knows the name of the lady who took over from me from the Hair dressers next to the butchers, I would like to know her name so I could thank her, I had come to the end of what I could cope with.

Take care everyone.

We need spaces for people and spaces for cars , until we accept this accidents will happen ... radical change is unlikely in this conservative ghetto

Once upon a time Alderley Edge had 3 crossings: one either end, and one in the middle.

Please please please could the council put another crossing in the middle...people are risking their lives all day dodging traffic in the middle of the village. If there had been a crossing in the middle this lady would still be alive. And this is the second time this has happened in the same spot! The A34 is a principal highway, traffic for now have to use it, there is no other way until the bypass opens.

Hi just a quick message for James Sherwood.

It was my mum who took over from you attending to the lady that day, we had popped into the cake shop in the village when the accident happened. Lisa at alderleyedge.com will forward my email address if you would like to contact me further.
