World Women’s Day of Prayer

World Women’s Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of informed prayer and prayerful action, organised and led by Christian women who call the faithful together on the first Friday of March each year to observe a common day of prayer and service.

The service is written by a different country each year (Cameroon this year) and that country then becomes the focus of the world’s prayers on the day itself. The first service is held in Tonga in Pacific and continues around the world until the final service takes place 35 hours later in Western Samoa.

The symbol of the Women's World Day of Prayer was designed in 1981 by an Irish man for the service prepared by women of Ireland, both north and south, and was then adopted as the International Logo. It is made up of four people kneeling in prayer from the four points of the compass and the circle represents the world.

World Women’s Day of Prayer will take place at St Philip and St James Church on Friday 5th March, 2.00-3.00pm. The Guest Speaker will be Canon Professor Rev. Loveday Alexander and refreshments will be served in Parish Rooms after service.
