Orchestra's festive concert raises £750

Alderley Edge Symphony Orchestra played to a packed house at the Methodist Church on Sunday, 16th December.

A medley of cheerful Christmas music and readings proved to be exactly what was needed on a dark winter afternoon.

The BBC North Staff Choir sang their hearts out and encouraged the audience to do the same when they joined in such favourites as O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

Guest conductor, Edwina Wolstencroft, said "It was a pleasure to be part of such a lovely, joyful concert – just the ticket for Christmas!"

Helen Hall, from the orchestra, said "We were absolutely delighted to welcome so many people to our concert. We hoped to raise some money for the Christie Hospital, but the final figure exceeded even our most optimistic estimates. What was equally satisfying was how much everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. One lady told me, as she was leaving, that she had had a lovely, happy afternoon – as an orchestra I think we could not ask for a better accolade than that!"
