Volunteers from Alderley Edge in Bloom have been braving the cold and rain to plant thousands of bulbs around the village again this year to generate a display of colour ahead of this year's North West In Bloom competition.

Assorted varieties of hyacinths and ornamental bulbs along with about 3000 daffodil and narcissus bulbs have been planted in a variety of locations to make the village look beautiful again this spring.

The volunteers have planted on the A34 from the Merlin heading into the village on both sides of Wilmslow Road, in the park, on the triangle of land at the junction of Ryleys Lane and London Road, at the railway station and at the junction of Moss Lane and Trafford Road.

They also planted the grass triangle at the junction of Ryleys Lane and Chorley Hall Lane and Windermere Drive as well as planting all the tubs and planters around the village.

Hello Jon, Yes you are right they are better planted around October time. The reason we are a bit late with the planting is that we had to wait until we could get the bulbs at a reduced rate as we couldn't afford to pay the full price. We planted the tulips, hyacinths and daffodils last year around the same time and they did give a lovely burst of colour in the spring time. So I think they will be OK again this year. At least I hope so!! They are already sprouting and are looking very healthy.

Well done to Christine and her team, let us hope that the vandals who have been responsible for damaging other displays can be identified and dealt with!
