Crowdfunding platform launches appeal over revised apartment plans

A property crowdfunding platform has launched an appeal against the planning committee's refusal of their plans to build three or four apartments in Alderley Edge.

Hale-based The House Crowd has been granted planning permission to construct two duplex apartments at 10, Congleton Road and work began to clear the site in May 2016.

However, two subsequent applications for three and four apartments were refused on the grounds of over-development, over-utilisation of the site and having a harmful impact on the Conservation Area.

Eleven members of the Northern Planning Committee voted to refuse both applications in October 2016, whilst one member abstained.

The documentation for the appeal has not yet been posted on the Cheshire East Council website but Councillor Craig Browne confirmed at the Parish Council meeting on Monday, 13th February, that the appeal will be heard by written response.

Councillor Browne said "I called the enforcement officers there last Friday. They came and did a visit and confirmed that the developer is continuing to build the specifications that were refused by the committee.

"They have been advised to cease work and told that any work they continue to do is at their own risk pending the outcome of the appeal."

When asked to clarify the situation at a meeting of the Parish Council on Monday, 13th February, Councillor Browne added "They are building a development of four rather than the permission they have for two. If the appeal decision goes against them then they will have to knock it down."

However, Frazer Fearnhead, CEO of The House Crowd, told alderleyedge.com "The building work we have done is in line with the planning permission already granted and no internal configurations to divide the building into either 2 or 4 flats have yet been made. We are awaiting the outcome of the planning appeal before that is done."

According to The House Crowd website £612,000 has been raised so far for their scheme at 10 Congleton Road.

Dear Mr Fearnhead - With all due respect, my perception is that you are either being misinformed by your people or you are misinforming the readers.
The internal configuration, as you put it, is already built for the two lower levels and is clearly not according to the approved plans for 2 apartments. This is a fact confirmed by Cheshire East who, I understand, has also advised you to stop.
