First lunchtime concert of 2017 promises something rather special

The first Alderley Edge Methodist Church lunchtime concert of 2017 will be a celebration of the music of Percy Grainger and Ronald Stevenson.

Callum McLachlan will be giving a piano recital under the title "Comrades in Art", the programme will focus on the piano compositions of Percy Grainger and Ronald Stevenson and will have a popular mix of music.

Callum, from Hazel Grove, first had piano lessons from his father and entered Chetham's School of Music in 2010 after having passed grade 8 at the age of 11. He continues to study with Dina Parakhina and is currently in his 7th and final year.

The 17-year-old has had much success in concerts and competitions around the UK, winning 1st prize in the Welsh International Piano Festival (U19), The Scottish International Piano Competition Youth prize, as well as reaching the national finals of the EPTA piano competition.

He also won 1st prize in the Chetham's Yamaha competition and the Chetham's Bach competition, as well as winning the Concerto Competition in 2016, which enabled him to perform Liszt's 2nd Piano Concerto at RNCM with the Chetham's Symphony Orchestra in the 2016/17 season.

After he leaves Chetham's, Callum hopes to continue his studies at music college in Germany.

The lunchtime concert takes place at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Wednesday 18th January at 1pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is by programme, £5.00, available at the door. Light lunches (charged separately) will be served from 12 noon.
