Alderley Edge traders have secured the help of a local actress and singer to switch on the Christmas lights tonight (Thursday, 24th November) and mark the official start of the festive celebrations.

Alice Barlow, who has starred in Hollyoaks, ITV drama series Crime Stories and Benidorm, as well as appearing on The Voice in 2013, will be assisted by Rhianna Donatien from Year 5 at Alderley Edge School for Girls, Nehmah Tayara from Year 5 at Alderley Edge Community Primary School and Ollie Hudson from Year 2 at The Ryleys - the three winners of the school's poster competition.

London Road will be closed to traffic from 5pm to enable the festivities to spread down the centre of the village. The event will kick off at 6pm with live performances from a variety of acts and much to delight of the little ones Father Christmas will be making an appearance on his sleigh.

The actual lights switch on will take place at around 7.30pm and the event is scheduled to finish at 9pm.

Mitch Gilbert, Chairman of AeTag said "We are looking forward to our annual Christmas Light Switch on event, now in its 14th Year and we hope the event is well supported as previous years with festive fun, Father Christmas making his popular appearance.

"Mulled wine, a hog roast and pizza will be available and festive cheer to help bring a Christmas atmosphere to both residents and businesses here in Alderley Edge."
