Local residents are being invited to get into the Christmas spirit with a Yuletide celebration on Sunday, 18th December.

A choir from Year 6 of Alderley Edge School for Girls will be joining the Alderley Edge Orchestra for an afternoon concert of Christmas music in the newly refurbished Festival Hall.

Helen Hall said "There will be something for everyone from Away in a Manger to Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride and all stops in between. Your journey will take you from the snowy wastes of Russia, with Prokofiev's Troika, through a visit to the ballet with Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite and on to Bethlehem for some traditional carols. There may be some fiery Spanish castanets in the Fiesta de le Posada and even a few chestnuts roasting on an open fire."

There will also be the chance to sing your favourite carols with plenty of opportunities for audience participation.

Kate Valentine, Junior School Coordinator of Music said "We are delighted to have been asked to work in collaboration with the Alderley Edge Orchestra. Our Year 6 girls have been getting ready for the festive season and can't wait to perform a collection of contemporary and traditional songs and carols. This is an exciting opportunity and it will be a valuable experience for our girls to work alongside the orchestra and be a part of a bigger ensemble."

Catherine Jones, the newly appointed Festival Hall manager, is looking forward to decking the hall for the occasion and serving seasonal refreshments.

The concert takes place at 3.30pm on Sunday 18th December, in the Festival Hall on Talbot Road.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £1 for children. Tickets are available online or by phoning 01625 581321 or at the door.

All profits from the ticket sales will go to the charity Arts 4 Dementia which develops arts programmes to empower, re-energise and inspire people with early stage dementia.
