Award winning group granted permission to redevelop pub and add accommodation

Ribble Valley Inns have been granted planning permission to redevelop a vacant public house on the outskirts of Alderley Edge.

Having purchased The Stag's Head in Great Warford in 2014 they intend to make alterations to the existing pub as well as converting and extending the adjacent barn to form a new restaurant, with approximately 90 covers, and four hotel rooms.

The scheme also includes erecting an annex building to create an additional 10 hotel bedrooms and increasing the number of parking spaces from 24 to 50.

Ribble Valley Inns is part of the Northcote Group of Companies which also includes the Michelin Star restaurant Northcote, near Blackburn.

The Northcote Group is co-founded by Head Chef Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft, who is responsible for creating the wine lists.

The Stag's Head will be the sixth Ribble Valley Inn and the second in Cheshire with the group having opened The Nag's Head pub in Haughton in 2014.

Internally the pub will have a large open plan format at ground floor level which is described as providing "a relaxed and spacious setting, whilst retaining the feel of a contemporary country pub".

The company says their philosophy is simple,"We harvest the finest, freshest seasonal ingredients from the pick of local artisan suppliers, and create a menu inspired by tradition but influenced by contemporary twists."

A public consultation event was carried out in July 2016 where members of the local community were shown the proposals for the refurbishment of the Stags Head plus the addition of the new 10 bedroom accommodation.

Cllr Chris Sweetman, Chairman of Great Warford Parish Council wrote in support of the proposed scheme saying "The Great Warford Parish Council and a large number of residents are completely behind this proposal for the redevelopment of the Stags Head and recommend approval by the Planning Officer and Committee."
