Alderley Edge Orchestra promises to make a big impression

The Alderley Edge Orchestra will perform a programme of classical music at Alderley Edge Methodist Church on Saturday, 19th November including "Fierrabras" overture from Schubert's three-act opera, Beethoven's Violin Concerto and the Symphony No 2 by Sibelius - promising to stir emotions and make a deep impression on you.

The orchestra is delighted to welcome conductor Edmon Levon. Speaking of the forthcoming concert he said, "It is a very exciting programme. "Fierrabras" combines in an apparently simple way both love and death. Beethoven's Violin Concerto stands out of the concerti repertoire for its fantastic blending of the orchestra sonority and texture with the soloist. Last but not least, we will present a neither aggressive nor strong but noble and intense performance of Sibelius Symphony No 2, closer to the Finnish tradition than to the western European understanding of Sibelius's music."

Born in Bulgaria, Edmon won acclaim as a violinist at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Granada and is currently studying for a Master's Degree in Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Edmon added "I am delighted to be working with the Alderley Edge Orchestra. In the short time I have been with them I have been impressed by their cohesion, discipline, willingness to work hard and, above all, their good quality and sensitivity as individual musicians."

Talented local violinist, Emma Rushworth, joins the orchestra for the Beethoven violin concerto. Emma started studying violin at the age of 4 and is now a scholarship student at the Royal Northern College of Music. Previously a leader of the Halle Youth Orchestra, Emma is now leader of the National Youth String Orchestra as well as successfully forging a solo career.

Speaking of the concerto, Emma said "It has been a real challenge preparing this fantastic work, which combines beautiful lyrical tunes with exciting and exhilarating passages. I am looking forward very much to performing it with the Alderley Edge Orchestra"

The concert will commence at 7.30pm on Saturday 19th November at Alderley Edge Methodist Church. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £1 for under eighteens. They will be available on the door or can be bought in advance through the website or on the ticket hotline 01625 581321.
