Macmillan coffee morning hailed a big success

Many local businesses, organisations and schools invited people to join them for a cuppa and cake recently to raise money for people affected by cancer.

Freshly brewed tea and coffee were served along with an impressive selection of homemade cakes in return for a donation to Macmillan Cancer Research Trust.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's annual flagship fundraiser and celebrated its 26th birthday this year.

Amongst those taking part was Alderley Edge Union Club on Stevens Street who were delighted to have raised £566 for Macmillan, compared with £200 which they raised last year.

Terry Bowes, Secretary of Alderley Edge Union Club, said "It was very well attended and the good ladies of Alderley excelled with a great variety of cakes and scones.

He added "We absolutely smashed last year's total so many thanks to all who helped an attended."

I'm pleased to say; that like hundreds of families, we held a coffee morning for Macmillan.
Last year they raised circa £25 million for the most wonderful organisation in the U.K. These nurses provide the most wonderful care for the terminally ill, and who knows, we may all need them one day. I just wish they didn't need to ask for funds. They should be fully financed by central government. They are; to many, more valuable than the NHS.
