Have your say on police priorities

Cheshire's Police & Crime Commissioner David Keane has published his draft Police & Crime Plan for public comment today (Monday 19th September).

The four priorities he is proposing are: ensuring the police have a real connection with our communities; supporting victims of crime and vulnerable people; working to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour before it takes place; and ensuring that Cheshire has a police service fit for the future.

The draft Plan, which is available both in full and in summary form on the Commissioner's website, is based on feedback from thousands of residents across Cheshire.

Mr Keane said: "During the summer I undertook an extensive conversation with residents, communities and partner agencies across the county about what they felt were the priorities for our police service. I have listened to what was said and developed a plan which will deliver for the whole of Cheshire, irrespective of your background or personal circumstances.

"It sets out a vision in which Cheshire will have a Constabulary focused on prevention, supporting the most vulnerable and putting victims first; a police service fit for the future and which is connected with, based within and accessible to local communities – real neighbourhood policing."

Between 19th September and 31st October, the Commissioner and his team will be visiting communities throughout Cheshire holding public roadshows and consulting on his plans. First stop is Crewe on Monday, on Friday 7th October he will be at Silk Mill Street in Knutsford from 10am to 2pm and on Sunday 30th October he will be at the Treacle Market in Macclesfield from 10am to 2pm.

A full list of the events will be available on the Commissioner's website, along with an online survey for those who can't meet the Commissioner or his team in person.

At the end of these six weeks, feedback on the draft plan will be reviewed and a final Plan published before Christmas.

Mr Keane added: "I'm committed to understanding what the public think of my proposals. Have I captured their priorities for Cheshire? I would urge everyone to come and join the conversation and help to finalise the priorities I'm setting for policing in our county."

What exactly does 'fit for the future' mean?

If the kind gentleman wants to impress we good folk of Alderley Edge, how about letting us see an actual police officer from time to time?

Indeed might the kind gentleman come to Alderley Edge to talk with 'us'? I've had a brief look at his website but did not see a further list of where he'll be; perhaps just my short-term attention span? Or my cynicism ?

Haven't we talked the obvious time and time again .Are we doing his nicely paid job for him ? Severe cuts in the police service will not make our words count for anything .Lack of funds will always be the scapegoat whilst our council tax increases , and those lucky enough to work will either be stung for income tax or N.I contributions .
I will not waste my time ...but if the police want to make megabucks round here start with fining for driving and using phones . Try the school run ..will make £100's per min .
