A group of 'Nutters' came together at the weekend to support 9 year old Max Bailey, who attends Alderley Edge Community Primary School, who suffers from scoliosis (curved spine) that requires immediate surgery.

The team of twenty-six completing the Tough Mudder 2016 endurance challenge on Saturday, 10th September, raising about £9000 towards Max's next trip to America for life changing therapies in October.

'TEAM Max Tough Mudder Nutters' was made up of local people including parents from Max's school and other Maxipotential supporters from local businesses.

His mum Saz Bailey said "There were triumphs, injuries, heroic acts, and comedy moments. Twenty-six of us started, twenty-six of us finished. No 'Nutter' was left behind. People who have followed Max's journey came together, pushed their personal boundaries and made bonds for life, all with the purpose of getting Max the treatment he needs. A truly life enhancing experience on all levels."

Lindsey Caudwell joined TEAM MAX as the cause is something close to her heart. She said "Tough Mudder is a challenge I have always wanted to do but never been brave enough until now to sign up. I can't think of a better cause than for Team Max. A little boy who's part of our community. I've had personal experience getting treatments in America for my son and its the best thing I have ever done for him. I admire Sarah and Paul Bailey for exploring the best treatment for Max. I hope we can all do what we can to get Max what every child is entitled to - the best care possible."

Their team effort to complete the endurance course ended up taking a wet and muddy 6 hours, with a few injuries along the way, so unfortunately what we planned as a mid afternoon return ended up being 7pm but the raucous after party and awards ceremony still went ahead in the village as planned.

Speaking about Max's treatment Saz said "He has responded exceptionally well to treatments in America so far. This must continue. Funding is an ongoing task, requiring around £15,000 every three months, so we're running large scale annual events that people get to take great things from. Hopefully people with stick with us. We are already recruiting for 2017!"

She added "Scoliosis is a remarkably common condition effecting 1 in 35 people. We are all likely to know someone who suffers to some degree. We want the Maxipotential fund to grow and evolve into a charity that will help many more of our children and young adults by bringing therapies back to the UK and re-instating check-ups at a young age. To do that we need to scale up and recruit more people into events like these."

If you are just a little bit mad and want to join TEAM MAX Tough Mudder Nutters 2017 (and Minni Mudder for kids) email Saz Bailey.

You can also support Max by joining the fun at their Wild Western Raffle Bonanza being held at Aldrley Edge Festival Hall on Friday November 18th where some great prizes that have been donated by local people and businesses will be given away. Tickets can be reserved online
