Volunteers help spruce up the village

Volunteers hit the streets of Alderley Edge on Sunday, 11th September, in an effort to make the village more attractive.

The group litter picked Davey Lane, Wood Gardens, Beech Road Park, London Road, South Street and South Street car park. Additionally they weeded and litter picked the car park at the railway station.

Councillor Christine Munro said "If it is strewn with litter and cigarette ends, and has weeds growing around the buildings it doesn't look very good, so we are doing our best to make an improvement.

"As a group we are proud of our village as I am sure most residents of Alderley Edge are too, but we think it needs a little bit of sprucing up.

Christine added "We would like to ask the businesses in the village if they would just take a moment to stand on the pavement outside their premises. Look at your shop front and you will see what your customers see every day.

"It takes less than 5 minutes to pull up those weeds growing against your wall or pick up the litter which has been dropped overnight.

"If we all took pride in our village, making it a more attractive place to be, think how much pleasure we would get every day just by looking around us."

Every month the volunteers will focus on a different part of the village, usually one that has been suggested to them by one of the group or a member of the public.

Christine continued "Children often help out and enjoy doing so whilst learning a lifelong lesson on the importance of putting litter in the bin and taking care of their environment."

They will be litter and weed picking on the second Sunday of each month, meeting in the railway station car park at 11am. The next date will be Sunday 9th October.

If anyone would like to join them, or if you would like the loan of a litter picker so that as you take a walk around the village and collect litter on the way email Christine Munro.
