Latest batch of road and pavement upgrades announced

Our ward councillor Craig Browne provided an update at this week's parish council meeting about the recent work which has been carried out, and future work which is scheduled to improve the condition of the roads and pathways in the village.

Firstly, Talbot Road has been resurfaced and the Highways Officers will be installing the waiting restriction plates on the lampposts shortly, once this has been done waiting on the western side of Talbot Road (the opposite side to the Medical Centre and scout hut) will be restricted to 30 minutes Monday to Friday.

Councillor Browne explained "The purpose of this is to try and guarantee convenient, short-stay parking for people visiting the Medical Centre."

The footpath at the junction of Moss Road and Duke Street has been repaired and resurfaced. Similar footpath repairs are planned for Oakfield Road, where some of the grass verges are going to be removed, later in the year.

More immediately, the roundabouts at each end of Beech Road are going to be filled with fresh soil and have the grass re-seeded, as well as the addition of white marker posts to try and protect them from being driven over in the future. This work is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 20th July.

Additionally the current gully emptying programme, which has been taking place across the village over the last two Wednesdays, will continue later this week in the village centre, with no parking in West Street.

Councillor Browne said "I do understand the frustrations of some residents, but I have continued to report blocked gullies to Cheshire East Highways and of course, a group of volunteers helped out with a "blocked drain survey" last year, so I am delighted that this work, which is long overdue, is finally being carried out. Having said this, I would ask residents to continue to work with us and to let us know if there are any gullies that have been missed out."

Finally, patching work, similar to that recently carried out in Talbot Street, is scheduled to be carried out on Macclesfield Road, both on the approach to the top of the hill and on the section outside the property known as Broomfield."

Councillor Browne said "I'm pleased to report that this work should be carried out on Thursday, 14th July, although there will of course be some disruption to traffic travelling along Macclesfield Road as a result.

"Once this work has been carried out, a new traffic regulation order will be introduced along the section of Macclesfield Road from Norwood Rise, to the property known as Sienna Lodge. This work is expected to be done before the end of July and is in response to residents' concerns about pedestrian footpath access along this section of road."

Craig, the roundabouts at each end of Beech Road have been reseeded but only the Oakfield Road one has the marker posts. Unfortunately the Elmfield Road one has already been driven over and has very deep ruts in it!

Another one for Craig, try pushing a pram or wheelchair along the footpath past Ryleys School in the direction of Chelford, broken footpath, overgrown hedges and grass and a lamp post in the way !

Hi Dina,

Thanks for letting me know about this (it is so annoying when you try your best to smarten things up and then they come along and only do half a job!). I have been down to Beech Road to take some photographs and will put them in my report to the officers. I'll let you know when I have an update.

Kind regards,
Craig
