Helping to keep the park blooming

A local business woman who suggested that village businesses and organisations could take on the management of the flower beds in the park, is now seeing her proposal come to fruition.

Heather Wienholt wrote to the Parish Council back in 2012 saying she would like to take over management of one of the flower beds, plus get others to do the same to improve the appearance of the park.

It has taken a while but last autumn Heather met with Councillor Craig Brown and the park maintenance team from Cheshire East Council and they gave her permission to sponsor a flower bed. The arrangement being that Heather has planted up and now maintains one of the beds on behalf of her business.

Heather told alderleyedge.com "It is a pleasure for us to look after our bed, we don't have impressive gardening skills, but we hope to have some all year round colour and keep it well maintained."

Meanwhile Cllr Brown has himself dug and planted two beds which he will look after and they are now looking for more businesses, organisations or individuals who would like to do the same.

Craig Browne said "I would like to thank the three local businesses (G Wienholt, Trafford Road Barbers and Wizard Project Solutions) who have already supported this initiative, by agreeing to sponsor and/or maintain the new flower bed.

"I am sure people who use the park regularly will agree that they look lovely and are a great addition to the park. I would also like to thank the volunteers who recently helped with the planting of 200 summer iris bulbs; in a few weeks time, they will really help to brighten up the area next to the steps."

Anyone interested in maintaining a flower bed in the park should email Councillor Craig Browne.

Great initiative, the Wienholt bed looks great, I'm going for a couple of extra turkey & mushroom pies at the weekend by way of appreciation.

Thank you
