Ribble Valley Inns have announced that they will be opening a new pub on the outskirts of Alderley Edge.

Having purchased The Stag's Head in Great Warford in 2014 they will be reopening the premises this summer.

Ribble Valley Inns is part of the Northcote Group of Companies which also includes the Michelin Star restaurant Northcote, near Blackburn.

The Northcote Group is co-founded by Head Chef Nigel Haworth and Craig Bancroft, who is responsible for creating the wine lists.

The Stag's Head will be the sixth Ribble Valley Inn and the second in Cheshire with the group having opened The Nag's Head pub in Haughton in 2014.

The company says their philosophy is simple,"We harvest the finest, freshest seasonal ingredients from the pick of local artisan suppliers, and create a menu inspired by tradition but influenced by contemporary twists."

I think there's more chance of seeing the Michelin Man.
We've been without our pub for nearly two years now and there's no sign of building work. Such a sad loss to our small community.
I'm also afraid that when it does finally open we won't be allowed in cos, in Michael Caine's words in Alfie, 'It's become too bloody poncified'.

Such a shame village pubs are turning into restaurants, Yes we need some where to go out and enjoy a good meal, but the traditional pub is disappearing due to the pressure on profits from the owners, mainly from the PLC's., But I remember the Stag's Head in the 1960's and 1970's and the only food was a bag of Smiths crisps or a pickled egg, but we enjoyed many an evening enjoying each others company and having a good laugh.
Will this still happen in a "posh country restaurant ", I don't think so.

Having eaten at 3 of RVI establishments ( Three Fishes , Clog and Billycock which are both in Lancashire and more recently at The Nag's Head in Haughton near Tarporley ) I welcome this new venture !! Of course I respect opinions about pubs from days gone by . The ( unfortunate ) truth is that there is little money to be made from crisps and pickled eggs !! With drink-drive laws as they are ( and rightly so ) establishments have had to diversify into becoming more food-orientated ... And yes , that is where there is money to be made . The Stag has been "Stag-nent" for ages now ... Personally I can't wait , and it will prove , I'm sure , to be a bit of healthy competion for both Bull's Heads ....

I'm afraid I must agree wholeheartedly with Sean and John. For the last two years we've been living in hope that it will reopen as a pub, now this announcement puts the final nail in the coffin - the last thing that the vast majority of local people wanted or needed.

Good on you Helen. I'm with you. These old Leviathans like Sean , John and Ivan are just not up to speed. In the 'Golden triangle' no-one cooks, it's a bit old hat, anyway we are too busy .. we all eat out. Real ale and pubs.... times have moved on. Lager is the thing. Come on chaps this is 2016.

Quite so, Malc. And don't forget to drink your lager straight from the bottle; none of those nancy glasses for REAL men! Saves on the washing up, too (not that we do that either in the GT).

A fresh consignment of orange foundation cream is on its way to you as I type!

Yes, Malcolm, we need more Fosters, Carlsberg, Carling and the like. And who needs pubs anyway? We can buy most of this rubbish from supermarkets and so not have to go out.

Ooops! Did I say rubbish?

what's not to like? A well run pub serving great beer and great food...isn't that what it's all about?
