A service to celebrate the life and ministry of their former vicar Revd Canon Brian Young will take place St Philip & St James Church on Friday, 11th March.

Revd Canon Brian Young sadly passed away on January 28th January, on the eve of his 75th birthday. He was Vicar of St Philip's Church for almost 25 years and Rural Dean of Knutsford Deanery for seven years.

The Thanksgiving Service will commence at 2pm. The Bishop of Chester will be giving the address and choirs from The Ryleys, Alderley Edge School for Girls and Alderley Edge Community Primary School will be singing their own special piece as Brian had a great love for the schools.

Keith Lowe, Chairman of the Alderley Edge Music Festival will also be speaking on behalf of the festival which was so dear to Brian's heart - and in which he entered as a young lad.

Revd Jane Parry said "Brian had a great heart for the community here at Alderley Edge and all are welcome to come and celebrate his life and ministry."

Revd Brian ... What a lovely man . I remember one occasion during service that my husband was unable to walk down the aisle to receive Communion .. Revd Brian walked down the aisle and we received Communion at our pew . An absolute gentleman who had time for everyone , and loved his Saturday morning chats with parishioners on London Road !! I will endeavour to pay my respects this Friday in church xx RIP

We couldn't meet in London Road or anywhere else for less than an hour usually, where we would swap great stories and jokes. Brian was right on my wavelength. Having heard what I heard at his memorial service today it seems that many others had the same pleasant experience of this great friend, this wonderful man. I cannot think of him without a smile soon coming. In 1986, my wife and I had a Marriage Blessing at St Philips and Brian also came afterwards to the Royal Oak for the entire reception, which, with his customary fluency, he called our "Deception."
A typical Brianism occurred once when I was waiting in reception at George Street surgery. In came Brian and a lady sitting near the door said, "Oh hello Brian, how are you?"
"Well, I'm here aren't I?" came the quick reply.
