The Alderley Edge Orchestra's next concert on Saturday March 5th will feature the orchestra's principal trumpet player as soloist. Paul Dawes will play the ever-popular Trumpet Concerto by Hummel.

Paul moved to Alderley Edge with his wife and elder daughter some 45 years ago. His career was spent in the research and medical functions at Alderley Park but music has always been an important part of his life. He has played with many other local orchestras including the KEMS of Macclesfield, Wilmslow and Stockport symphony orchestras, the Manchester Beethoven Orchestra and the Amaretti, Athenean and Lancashire chamber orchestras.

Paul said "Hummel was an outstanding child prodigy, more successful in his lifetime than his contemporaries Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, all of whom he knew. This concerto is a real virtuoso show piece for the trumpet, displaying its full range of dynamics and colours."

The concert also includes Schumann's electrifying Rhenish Symphony (No.3), which evokes reminiscences of Beethoven's 3rd Symphony. It is also a chance to hear Rimsky-Korsakov's Snow Maiden Suite. This suite is not well known but is full of haunting melodies and lively tunes and a wonderful piece for both orchestra and audience. It was one of the composer's own favourite works.

The orchestra is delighted to welcome back the award-winning Spanish conductor, Juan Ortuño. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Madrid and the RNCM, he is in demand throughout the UK and Europe. He has conducted many professional orchestras, including the Manchester Camerata and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as well as Kammerphilharmonie Graz, and Orquestra Simfònica del Vallés among others. He is guest conductor for the Spanish Youth Orchestra and was recently a finalist in the International Opera Conducting Competition in Orvieto.

The concert starts at 7.30pm on 5th March at the Alderley Edge Methodist Church, Chapel Rd SK9 7DU

Tickets cost £10. Under 18: £1. They are available on the door, via the website or via the ticket hotline 0161 439 6277.
