Alderley Edge Methodist Church is hosting a special Winterreise concert at the weekend to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of its composer Franz Peter Schubert.
John Powell (baritone) and Russell Lomas (piano) will be performing the song cycle on Sunday, 31st January in aid of their chosen charity The Alzheimer's Society.
Jean Walker said Winterreise (Winter Journey) is said to be a composition, an indispensable work of art that should be as much a part of our common experience as the poetry of Shakespeare or Dante, the paintings of Van Gogh and Picasso, the novels of the Brontesisters or Marcel Proust."
