Northern Rail customers in Alderley Edge are now looking to the future as new Customer Information Screens (CIS) have been installed at the station.

The £264,000 investment by Northern Rail, a Serco and Abellio joint venture, means that rail customers will benefit from new screens which will offer up-to-the-minute train running information as and when it's needed.

The installation of the screens represents part of a £3million investment by Northern and its partners that will mean that 140 stations across the north of England will be equipped with the new technology.

Natalie Loughborough, Customer Service Director for Northern Rail, comments: "We listen carefully to our customers' feedback and we know they value real-time travel information. The new Customer Information Screens will keep people up-to-date with information about arrival and departure times as well as station calling points along the route.

"The launch of these Customer Information Screens demonstrates our commitment to investing in communication channels at our smaller stations."

Other stations in the area that have benefitted from new CIS screens include Cuddington (as shown in the photo above), Lostock Gralam, Knutsford, Poynton, Holmes Chapel, Northwich, Sandbach, Greenbank, Sankey for Penketh, Delamere and Padgate.

These screens have been there since at least September last year?

Thanks George, Northern Rail only sent the information yesterday. I saw them over the festive period but didn't realise they'd been there that long.

The fact we now have electronic boards means that you can also find out if your train is running late if you dowload an app to your phone! This means you don't freeze to death on the platform for 20minutes when you could be somewhere warm and it also stops you running like a lunatic to catch a train which is actually running 10 minutes late! I would love to know how they managed to cost £264,000 though!

Would you expect anything else from Northern Rail ? Too late and over budget, I hope they lose the franchise.
