Physiofit in Alderley Edge launched its annual Search for a Star campaign in May offering a sponsorship package to a local athlete, giving them access to physiotherapy and strength and conditioning to help them reach their sporting potential.

They approached all the local schools and clubs to offer them the chance to apply. From the many amazing applications received the judges, who included ex-England Cricket Captain Michael Vaughan, have chosen Hannah McColgan as their Sporting Star.

Hannah, 15, is a pupil at Cheadle Hulme School and represents the county in both tennis and hockey. Hannah has shown immense dedication to developing her tennis travelling to Bolton several times a week for training. She represented the Cheshire Senior Ladies team when only 14 and was ranked in the top 10 u16's in the country in last winter's ranking list.

Hannah will be awarded free physio, strength and conditioning sessions, a running and biomechanical analysis and many other opportunities to help her reach her dream of playing at Wimbledon and attending an American University on a sports scholarship.

The selection process was made incredibly tough by the high calibre of athletes who applied.

Angie Jackson, Director of Physiofit, commented "It is reassuring to know just how many talented and dedicated sporty children there are in our local area. In the light of the number and the quality of applicants, I have decided to make some additional smaller awards to children who are showing outstanding commitment and success in their chosen sports."

Physiofit for Golf was awarded to Bel Wardle from Cheadle Hulme School. Bel, 15, has represented England and is already a scratch handicap golfer. Bel won the u18 trophy at the England Women's Open Championship and she too represents the Senior Cheshire team.

Physiofit to Run was awarded to Morgan Frith from Fallibroome School, who at only 12 years of age is ranked 1st in England at long jump and 60m in the u13 age group.

The runners up were:

Eleanor Toms from The Kings School, Macclesfield for her achievements in hockey and athletics.

Lauren Jones from Cheadle Hulme School who has recently selected to train with England Gymnastics.

Max Gilbert from Stockport Grammar School who has represented English Lions at rugby.

Caitlin Polley from Cheadle Hulme School for her achievements in hockey.

Charlotte Westbrook from Withington Girls School an all-round outstanding athlete.

Jemima Laniado from Withington Girls School, for her achievements in Lacrosse.

The runners up will each receive a Physiofit sports specific screening to help them identify and correct any restrictions and weaknesses they might have.

The prizes were awarded by Michael Vaughan on Tuesday, 22nd September, and the athletes will all begin their programmes in the next few weeks.
