High flying academics from Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge, who attend schools a bit further afield, have achieved some very impressive A level results this week.
Victoria Tann from Wilmslow, who attended Kings School in Macclesfield, got a clean sweep of four A*s and will go on to read English Literature at Durham. After which Victoria wants to work in top flight publishing.
Whilst fellow King's pupil Rheanne Beresford, from Handforth, got three As and one B and will read Economics with Econometrics at Exeter University and Elaine Goulbrum from Wilmslow got an A*, two As and one B and will read Veterinary Science at the University of Surrey. Elaine wants to specialise in canine neurology.
King's School Headmaster Dr. Simon Hyde said: "At a time when the Government is trying to make the public examination system more challenging these are exceptional results born of the students' and teachers' hard work, a thirst for intellectual inquiry and a strong partnership between home and school."
Meanwhile 18-year-olds Katharine Taylor from Alderley Edge and Helen Connolly from Wilmslow are among the high flying 'Class of 2015' at Manchester High School for Girls, both securing a string of straight A* grades.
Katharine, who achieved five A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, will study Natural Sciences (Biological) at the University of Cambridge.
She commented: "I feel extremely lucky, a bit surprised and most of all delighted to be off to Cambridge! I have always loved nature and the subject of Biology, and I am fascinated about how the world around us works. Natural Sciences is perfect for me as it covers such a wide range of areas of study and enables me to pursue my interests."
"I am really grateful for having had excellent teachers in school – they have been supportive and encouraging, and given me the confidence to aim high. I will miss everyone here but I am really looking forward to the next stage of my life. Who knows what the future holds for me beyond that!"
With four A*s in Biology, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, Helen is going to undertake a degree in Law at Durham University. She said, "I wasn't expecting these results. I am so happy today! I have studied at Manchester High since Year 4 and everyone is like a big family to me. I will really miss my friends and the fantastic teachers here, they have been incredibly supportive."
Mrs Claire Hewitt, Head Mistress at Manchester High School for Girls, said: "The fact that this year's Senior Sixth have secured the best A-level results in our history leaves me in no doubt that these young women, like Katharine and Helen, are the leaders of tomorrow. Not only have they applied themselves to their studies but they have embraced the many extra-curricular opportunities available, from sport and charity work to music and the arts."
