Local mum Merridy Shakibai has been hosting a charity fair at her home in Wilmslow for the past fifteen years but due to its increasing popularity she is moving to a bigger venue, enabling more people to get involved.
This year Merridy will be hosting her Autumn fair, which is in aid of the Brittle Bones Society, at the Festival Hall on October 15th.
Merridy organises these annual events as a way of giving something back to the charity which has helped her son Ashley who was diagnosed with brittle bones disease as a baby. Ashley told us the disease "makes me more prone to fractures, I have had nine broken legs and numerous other fractures over the course of my life. This means that I cannot do things such as play contact sports, and always have to be careful".
When talking about the society Ashley said "The Brittle Bone Society helped us by providing support for both myself and my parents, providing advice and other people to get in contact with. Most importantly it also provides wheelchairs to sufferers".
Merridy described her Autumn Fair as an opportunity to buy "an amazing selection of really unusual gifts, that you won't find in the shops, and they will be available at a great price". Numerous stands are taking part, including Gifts For All Seasons, Shoe-B-Do, Classic Jewels, Jane Shilton Handbags, Phoenix Cards, Cushions Plus and Italian Wines. Refreshments will be served and there will also be a raffle and tombola.
The fair will take place from 10.30-4pm at the Festival Hall on Talbot Road. Admission is free and if anybody would like to get involved or make donations for the tombola please contact Merridy on 07921 251 247.
